Multitrack Mixdown - Orchestral Film Score Cue
For my multitrack mixdown, I mixed a 107-track orchestral film score cue from the Produce Like A Pro website. With my career goals being based in film audio, I felt it was best to challenge myself by mixing a large session that I could see in my future day-to-day. My music mixing roots are set in jazz and orchestral music already, so this mix was an exercise in scaling up my workflow. Organization was especially crucial in this mix, so I spent extra time making sure all tracks were put into distinct folders. I built the string sound using the distant mics first, only pulling spot mics up when extra clarity was needed. Panning was pretty straight forward by using a real orchestra’s layout as a baseline, then I took creative liberties when an effect was needed. The main challenge with this mix was the balancing act of dynamic processing, where I had to find the sweet spot between a dynamic symphony and a modern, streaming-ready master.
